Alliance at Oregon Helps Get Kids Moving

The Human Performance Alliance at Oregon, based in the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact, sponsored the 2021 KIDSPORTS August Pop Up Summer Camps for the Bethel and Springfield areas. At the camps, 200 young girls and boys took part in a range of athletic activities, encouraging activity and physical fitness.

The Alliance at Oregon sponsored the camps as part of a community-building effort. The UO is a founding partner in the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance a global collaboration to promote wellness and peak performance through scientific discovery and innovation. The UO’s role spans multiple areas at the university, including the Bowerman Sports Science Center.

Rather than study disease, alliance researchers will seek to understand peak physical performance—from the molecular level to the whole body—in their efforts to advance human health and help us all lead healthier, more active lives.

That mission makes a partnership with KIDSPORTS a natural fit. KIDSPORTS is a private, non-profit organization in Oregon that provides youth sports programs for pre-K through 12th graders in Eugene-Springfield and surrounding areas. KIDSPORTS teaches children and families the value of physical fitness, sportsmanship, practice and teamwork through sports and activities.
