Welcome to the Knight Campus

October 17, 2016

Welcome to the new Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact. Thanks to the unprecedented generosity of Phil and Penny Knight, we are embarking on what promises to be one of the most exciting things to happen to the University of Oregon since its founding. The Knight Campus builds on a 60-year history of collaboration and interdisciplinary research at the UO by bringing entirely new kinds of scientists to campus to help spur innovation and provide unique research, training, and educational opportunities for our students.

As we build out new programs and hire new faculty members over the next few years, our focus will be on how to enhance the “impact cycle” of our research: a merging of the insights from fundamental research with the practical focus of applied research that accelerates the translation of research from the lab to society as a whole.

An important focus of our initial work will be on working with the state of Oregon to build two new research buildings on campus. These buildings will provide new labs for research, new spaces for training and entrepreneurship, and new core facilities to enhance the research of the entire UO campus.

Keep checking this space. The excitement is just beginning.
